READY TO GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE?

The Symes Event Venue | Toronto Wedding | Ali + Ryan

This was our first time filming a wedding at The Symes in Toronto and we’re so glad we finally got the opportunity! Super high ceilings, an industrial feel, great lighting and one of the best cocktail hour spaces you will find. What a perfect match for our lovely laid-back couple who literally said all day, ‘we just want people to have a good time and enjoy a great party!’ I describe Ali and Ryan as ‘laid-back’ because their reception was so relaxed and informal. There really wasn’t an exact schedule, you could sit where you wanted, have fun in a photobooth with plenty of costumes, and guests could mingle/dance the whole evening to the most incredible band! Also, instead of a sit-down meal, they had unbelievable food stations provided by the Bride’s brother-in-law Victor Dries Events & Catering. They wanted to throw a party, and they definitely did just that!

Honestly, it was so refreshing to see food stations as it was a great way to encourage guests to get up, move around and mingle. From thai noodles, to gnocci, to tacos, to bbq chicken and corn – let’s just say everyone (including us!) were not disappointed! The only other wedding I can think of with food stations was way back in 2014! So if you want to take a look back at what our wedding videos looked like over 5 years ago, here it is – Eilene + Anthony. What a treat for all of the guests to enjoy such incredible food! The vibe of the whole evening was just perfect and I can see weddings like this becoming more and more popular.

How stunning is this couple? Not only stunning but the most down-to-earth people too! When Ali said in her speech that Ryan looked like superman but said things like ‘Gosh goly’…we basically died! We only met them on the day, but that description felt so accurate! Unbelievably handsome man, and yet incredibly kind and sweet! They both are so lucky to have found each other 🙂

One random clip you might notice from the wedding video is the wrestling tournament! It was happening right beside The Symes nearby the photoshoot location – OBJX Creative Studio. It was such a great opportunity to get a couple of random fun shots while making the journey to the photoshoot location. The scene just so happened to match up perfectly with what Ryan was saying about Ali during our Q + A. He was mentioning how adventurous she was and how she likes to discover new things, then she just went ahead and proved him right when this opportunity arose. We love when random things like this pop up on wedding days as it gives us more footage to work with in the edit. Reminds us of the time when random tourists and bystanders were called into a group shot by the groom when we were filming at the Distillery District (Pinky + Octav).

Well Ali and Ryan thanks for choosing us to tell your story! Send our love to both of your beautiful families and special thanks to Victor Dries Events for making our bellies feel so good!

Until the next post,
Henjo x
