“A kind of love that the movies would be jealous of…”  The perfect line pulled straight from the groom’s vows – he basically summed up his beautiful relationship with Irena and managed to incorporate their wedding theme at the same time! Very nice touch!

COUPLE: These two are adorable! Irena and Josh are movie buffs at heart and incorporated this theme into their decor at the reception, and as I mentioned, into their vows! I absolutely loved their take on table numbers, which were movie posters from their favourite movies. They also showcased a vintage Kodak Brownie Projector along with film reels as a nice little display for guests. There was even a fully operating popcorn machine! Being movie buffs ourselves, Henry and I were very impressed with their theme choice. When we met with the couple last year, we found out that Josh was a game designer. I think we got on so well because us girls were, not surprisingly, chatty about wedding planning, and the boys had a common love of technology and motion graphics. It was so great getting to know them, and we couldn’t be happier that they asked us to film their big day!

VENUE: We filmed both the ceremony and reception at Southshore Community Centre, a very charming lakefront venue providing amazing views and fresh air!  The ceremony was held outside with a very interesting set up – no chairs necessary! In front of the ceremony site is a grass hill with built in wood beams that act as seats for your guests. It may suit your ceremony if you’re going for a more natural and rustic theme. Just remember though, the bride is going to have to walk down stairs or a hill to get down the aisle. Another highlight of the venue was that guests were allowed to go exploring outside on the patio and further down towards the water onto a black rubber platform. What is that you may ask? It was this very cool, and quite sturdy, floating dock that you could stand and take pictures on with the backdrop of a beautiful skyline. It was great being able to grab the couple for a few shots directly on the lake – not often can you get an opportunity like that!

CATERING and CAKE: The venue allowed for outside catering which suited us and all the guests just fine. Why? Because the food was fantastic! Josh’s mom is a caterer and she provided everyone with an amazing spread of salads, rice, veggies, meats, and more – we were completely stuffed afterwards!  We felt like we were eating a very fancy, yet cozy, Christmas meal with family!  Josh’s mom also provided the beautiful cake as a gift. If Josh’s mom is still catering, I’ll ask him for her contact!  We never once felt like vendors or felt like there were staff running around us. The whole night honestly felt like family coming together to help create what we felt was such a warm and inviting event – there wasn’t one impersonal thing about it!

MOTHER AND SON DANCE: You often hear about the father/daughter relationship at weddings and how the dance can get quite emotional (see Jos + Kerri’s highlight video), but another beautiful relationship we witness all the time is between mother and son. Watching Josh’s mom get so emotional while dancing with her son got us both choked up! It didn’t help that the song playing had those perfect lyrics where everyone just exclaims, ‘OMG, that’s so true!’ I’ll have to find out what that song is and update this post!

DRESS AND SHOES: I thought the dress that Irena chose was perfect for her cute and tiny frame and matched her personality as well. She looked like a princess from a fairytale!  The gown was purchased from Amanda Lina Sposa Boutique if you’re curious and still looking for a dress.  She also wore these beautiful lace gloves (that were her mother’s) to complete the whole look.  Once the bride had her opportunity, she changed into her converse shoes – amazing idea that not only let the bride feel comfortable, but actually complimented her full tulle skirt! I remember waiting until the dancing portion of my wedding night to change into my flats, and my feet regretted it afterwards!

MUSIC: The song we chose for the highlight video was What I wouldn’t Do by Serena Ryder – cute, fun, joyful…perfect for this couple and wedding!

Irena and Josh, we just want to wish you all the best as newlyweds and thank you once again for choosing us to film your big day.  We hope you guys have gotten settled with the move too, we know how stressful it can be!

Until the next post,
Joanie x
