READY TO GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE?

MADSEN’S GREENHOUSE BANQUET & CHAPEL | NEWMARKET | HEIDI + RODNEY

I’ve been having such a hard time thinking about how to write this post (I’ve been off and on at it for about a week now!) and wondering why I can’t get the words out. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s probably because I have TOO much to say! It could also be the fear of missing out on saying something important and also trying to organize all my thoughts into something concise and readable. I guess the most logical thing to do is just start from the very beginning.

Earlier this year, our friends Alex and Mark of OMG Events shared a story of a young couple going through an unimaginable experience. One that no one should ever have to deal with, but unfortunately, many do. It’s the ugly ‘C’ word that we never want to hear. Cancer. It sucks. Many people close to me have had to deal with this terrible disease and I can see firsthand how devastating it can be – not only for the individual, but for their loved ones as well.

Heidi is going through this for the third time and is now raising money for experimental treatment. So before I go any further, here’s Heidi’s GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/heidimoore. There has been quite a bit of media interest in this story too, and rightly so, because of the sheer strength and positivity that this couple have displayed. This media buzz has helped with the fundraising for Heidi’s treatment, so we want to do our best to help spread the word and raise some more money! Please share their story.

Besides treatment, what can one do to fight back? Positivity. Courage. Support. Three key things to bring to any battle! Luckily for Heidi she carries all three. Actually, ‘luckily’ isn’t the right word, maybe it applies to the support she has, but being positive and having courage is a choice, and she chooses to fight!

I never had the chance to meet Heidi before the wedding, but through the stories and the articles, I knew this girl was one tough cookie. After having the opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest days of her life, we found that everything we thought Heidi would be, she was.

Now, behind every strong woman is a very strong AND supportive man. Rodney. He is the definition of the man to have by your side through the good times and the bad. His selfless nature was evident throughout the day and night. He made us feel welcome from the minute we met him and it just seemed as if his first priority was to make sure everyone else was having a good time. Well actually, his first priority was Heidi! He was immersed in her at every moment like no one else was in the room! His love for her is undeniable.

Ok, so how did we get here in the first place, to the wedding? As we mentioned, OMG events shared this story originally, and that share included a shout out to all vendors asking for help to give Heidi and Rodney a wedding of their dreams. We felt drawn to this and knew we wanted to provide them with our wedding cinematography services – it was a story we wanted to tell. The amount of people that got involved was beyond amazing (full vendor list below). We have to give the biggest props to Alex and Mark for bringing all of the pieces of this wedding puzzle together. None of this could’ve happened without you guys!

Lastly, I just want to give you the thought process of how I chose songs for this wedding video because it’s such an important step in the editing process for us. I loved the song that played during Heidi and Rodney’s first dance, Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and loved it even more when I went home, listened to it again, and read the lyrics. Such a wicked melody paired with powerful words that really provided the backbone to the first half of the video. I knew I had to use some of the lyrics to start off the video as well. It just worked so well with the story – a mother telling her son that he’ll find love one day and then reassuring him that there is someone up above watching over him and this new love. Beautiful. We’ve been keeping the second song, Glorious by Foxes, on standby for a long time now. We LOVE this song and knew we needed to use it when the right wedding came along – and this was it! The artist says it’s all about never giving up and seeing how glorious life can be – how perfect is it to end the video with a song like this? Also, the climax gets us every time.

We want to thank Heidi and Rodney once again for letting us film their incredible day. The room was absolutely electric with everyone there focused on celebrating love and positivity. Sending you and your beautiful family best wishes for a long and happy married life together!

Until the next post,
Henjo x
