So first of all how did this fun loving couple find us… we owe a big thank you to their friends Debi + Charly (wedding video here) for that! So thank you guys for making this connection possible!
We never had the chance to meet Carl and Ingrid in person before the wedding, as they are based in New York, so we had a skype call instead. Sometimes skype calls can make it hard to have free flowing conversation due to slow connections etc…, but this wasn’t the case on our skype call. Yes sure we still encountered the odd screen freeze and what not, but the conversation was just really natural and we found Ingrid and Carl very genuine from the start and easy to talk to. Our heads did get a little bigger when Ingrid mentioned how hard it was for her to find wedding videographers that she liked in the whole of New York! Needless to say, after they secured the booking all we wanted to do was knock it out of the park to show them that they made the right choice.
We have to mention the photographer (Bryan Sargent Photography). Bryan was such a pleasure to work with and he really helped us capture what we got. He was always very mindful of where we were and it was really seamless working with him. On top of everything he was very calm at all times, which is a sign of someone with a tonne of experience. Another thing we have to mention is the cocktail hour. When Joanie and I first arrived at the cocktail hour area, we thought it was the reception area! It was massive space with numerous food stations, a shot bar, and signature cocktails! Never before have I seen such an impressive cocktail hour and the guests enjoyed every minute of it. In general this was one of those weddings where every guest just had a blast. It was smiling faces all around from start to finish.
I wanted to quickly mention the music. After shooting their wedding, we have to be honest, ‘Empire State of Mind‘ by JayZ feat. Alicia Keys did pop into our heads, but we were initially scared to use it as we thought it would be too much of an obvious choice by us. But when we got a list of song suggestions from the bride and groom, we were so happy to see that song on the list, and it made the decision a no-brainer from there. The other songs ‘Latch‘ by Sam Smith and ‘Where are you now‘ by Skillrex/Diplo/Justin Bieber were also on the list of suggestions and they fit perfectly also. It’s rare that we use everything the bride and groom suggests without throwing a tune of our own into the mix, but these guys really know their songs.
To finish off, Joanie and I just want to thank Ingrid and Carl for trusting us to be their wedding cinematographers. There was extra planning and expenses in getting us out there, but I hope the final product made it all worth it. Stay cool!
