This was a really fun and easy-going wedding to shoot for both Joanie and I. Weddings can often be quite stressful, especially when you are trying to do a lot in a short amount of time. But with this wedding, everywhere you looked you would see someone just having a laugh and enjoying the moment (not frantic!), and that definitely rubbed off on us!
That whole relaxed vibe certainly stemmed from the bride and groom. Shawn and Stephanie were such a lovely couple to be around, making everyone around them (including us!) feel at ease. Apparently Shawn is the calm to Stephanie’s storm, but Stephanie definitely played it cool on the big day! She is just the bubbliest human being and we loved how Shawn described Stephanie in the video through a hilarious example…you’ll have to watch the video to see what he said!
Not only were we blessed with an amazing couple to work with, we were also lucky enough to be shooting this wedding with Mario from Avangard Photography. We worked with him quite a few times in the past, including John Mark and Patricia’s wedding. If you are looking for candid shots and an unobtrusive shooting style, Mario is your guy. He is practically invisible on the wedding day!
I can’t write this blog post without mentioning the football stadium, Ron Joyce Stadium, at McMaster University. This was one of the backdrops used for the photo/video shoot because it actually has loads of meaning to the bride and groom! Shawn mentioned during his Q&A how homecoming is where their relationship really took off. How amazing that they were able to get a permit there and get some footage in the space where they first started to hang out. We were delighted to include these significant shots in the edit. We’re always excited to hear that there is a special meaning behind a space that we are using for a video shoot. Luckily for us, it was the perfect place to get amazing drone shots too! Oh how we love our drone. As you can see, we were drone-happy at Joelle and Tom’s wedding as well!
The wedding ceremony was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church and the Reception took place at Winona Vine Estates in Stoney Creek. The last time we shot a wedding here was for Aneta + Arek back in 2015. Still remember it like it was yesterday though. We remember all of our previous weddings pretty well. I think its because we watched over the footage so much that it just gets plastered in our long-term memory. Always good memories of course, and this is another great memory to add to the collection 🙂
